Tri-City Red Announces 2016 Roster (May 4, 2016)Thank you to all who registered and attended tryouts for Tri-City Red this season.
The following players have been named to the 2016 roster.
Adam Davidson Erik Holloman Bo Lovdahl Riley Flanagan Ross Indlecoffer Nick Lovdahl Tyler Fredlund Ty Koehn Ryan Nickel Nate Fredrickson Justin Langer Holden Schmidt Drake Gran Matthew Laursen Trevor Stephan Drew Gran Jeff LeMay Although the team wishes it could have rostered all those who registered, difficult decisions always need to be made -- especially considering the fact that the team needs to balance its roster with the proper mix of players by position. We strongly encourage eligible players who were not rostered this year to register and tryout again next season!
A Parent/Player meeting will be held in the coming weeks (date yet to be announced). At least one parent needs to attend (preferably both). The season schedule will be reviewed, along with general procedural issues and expectations -- and there will be ample time for questions. At that time, the registration fee will be due, along with player forms (which will be distributed in advance by email). An ORIGINAL of the player's birth certficate must also be provided, which will be held for the duration of the season. Therefore, parents are encouraged to locate the player's birth certificate now (and order an additional original, if desired.)
Please direct any questions or concerns to Administrator, Gail Kalata (651-592-4279) or Head Coach, Nik Anderson (651-497-7222). Thank you!

Tri-City Red to Host the 2017 MN State Legion Tournament
With the opening of CHS Field in St. Paul's Lowertown (providing a spectacular setting in which to play American Legion Baseball!), Tri-City Red presented a bid to the MN State Legion Baseball Board to host the 2017 State Tournament -- which was approved !!
As Tournament Host, Tri-City Red will receive an automatic berth in the tournament. CHS Field will serve as the main field for the event. Three additional fields will also be used the first day of the tournament (to be named at a later date) -- in order to accommodate a full-slate of 16 games the first day. Also, as tournament host, Tri-City Red is responsible for housing all out-state teams in local hotels, hosting an all-team banquet the evening before games begin, furnishing umpires and trainers for all games, producing a tournament program, etc.
MANY volunteers will be needed in organizing and hosting this event, so PLEASE plan to participate! (More info will be communicated, as plans develop.)
In particular, Red will need a LOT of assistance in the recruitment of tournament sponsors/contributors and donors of goods and services -- as well as advertisers for the tournament program. Therefore, please begin developing YOUR list of businesses and organizations, which you might be able to contact. (FYI, Tri-City Red Baseball is a non-profit organization -- which helps to make the prospect of donating all that more attractive.)
Other Local, State and National News
CHS FIELD:
Over the course of a number of years, Tri-City Red staff was involved in the CHS Field construction effort, by testifying at the MN Legislature, attending related events, and helping to grow grass-root support for a new ballpark to replace Midway stadium (which was recently torn down). As a result, Fourth District American Legion Baseball also enjoys a unique relationship with the City of St. Paul, enabling us to use the park for league games. In fact, during the construction of CHS, a time-capsule was installed within the walls of the park (to be opened in 2065) -- and materials pertaining to Tri-City Red and 4th District Legion Baseball were contributed to it. Learn more about CHS Field (in St. Paul's Lowertown) through its web site.MN AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL:
For more info about the 2016 season, visit the Minnesota American Legion Baseball web page. (Tri-City Red hosts this page -- along with many others -- on its own web site.)
Minnesota American Legion Baseball is also on Facebook. Visit -- and "like" the page -- to receive status updates on your Facebook news feed.
AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL, NATIONAL-LEVEL:
Did you know that the National American Legion Baseball web site includes a nation-wide listing of registered teams, as well as links to individual team web sites? Visit National's List of Registered Teams, to truly see the extent and popularity of American Legion Baseball across the nation-- as well as Minnesota's leading position, with respect to its number of registered teams.
Statewide Legion Baseball Poll
The MN American Legion Baseball Statewide Coaches/Media Poll took a hiatus in 2015, but hopefully will again be in operation for the 2016 season. (Gail actually administers the weekly Poll!) Tri-City Red has been a fixture in the Poll -- quite an accomplishment, considering there are over 300 Legion teams in Minnesota. Complete poll results are posted each week on this web site, as well as being distributed to several media outlets and newspapers all across the state. Make sure to check for the latest Poll results frequently!

Stories can be accessed on The Bulletin's Sports page -- or by doing a search on The Bulletin's homepage.
In addition, don't forget to check for articles in the Shoreview Press!
Tri-City Continues to Contribute to the Advancement and Promotion of American Legion Baseball
In addition to being the first American Legion Post and baseball teams in the State of Minnesota to establish a web site, do you know all the other ways that Tri-City helps to strengthen the American Legion Baseball Program in Minnesota? First, volunteers within the Tri-City organization handle the administration and publication of the Statewide American Legion Poll (read more). Secondly, Tri-City provides space on its own website to host the Official Minnesota State Tournament website -- as well as maintaining the site during the tournament and assisting with the running of the tournament itself. In addition, Tri-City hosts and maintains the MN Legion Baseball home page, and Tri-City plays an important role in assisting with the administration of the Gopher Classic tournament, including publishing all game schedules and results on-line. All of this information not only helps to advance the program, but it serves to benefit players by making more information accessible to college and professional scouts.
Because of its numerous contributions to American Legion Baseball -- on and off the field -- Tri-City was named Post of the Year by Minnesota American Legion Baseball in 2005. Gail was also inducted in the Minnesota American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011. So, be proud of your association with Tri-City -- and help us continue to enhance our reputation as a leader in American Legion Baseball by representing our team and Post with dignity and integrity!
Show Your Support of the Tri-City Legion!
As has been the case with many Legion Posts in recent years, the long-time sponsor of our baseball teams, Tri-City American Legion Post 513, has faced struggles in recent years due to the difficult economy -- and was forced to close its building as a result. (The Legion continues as a chartered Post -- it simply no longer has a building at which to hold community events.) You can show your onogoing appreciation to the Legion for all of the valuable contributions it makes to the community (in addition to sponsorship of the Legion baseball teams!), by supporting their continuing programs that benefit our area schools, veterans, youth, and the community at large. For information on current events (e.g., the collection of items for charitable garage sales, craft sales, etc.), please make sure to visit the Legion's web site, as well as its Facebook page. Also, if you are a veteran -- or if an immediate member of your family is a veteran -- please consider joining the Tri-City family as a member (Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion)!
(Because my father was a WWII veteran, I can proudly say that I am an American Legion Auxiliary member! Gail)

Minnesota State Tournament - Delano: (see State section below -- and the State Tournament page, for most up-to-date schedule / score information) | |||||||
Tournament / Season Notes: |
As in the past three seasons, this year, 15 "Sub-State Playoff Tournaments" will be held across Minnesota, instead of 10 District tournaments -- eliminating the past practice of multiple teams from certain District playoff tournaments earning berths in the State Tournament. (In addition to the 15 Sub-State Champions, the State Tournament Host team, Delano in 2016, automatically receives a berth, which rounds the State Tournament field out to 16 teams.)
4th District teams have been assigned to two different Sub-State playoff tournaments:
Sub-State 8 participants (9 teams) include: North St. Paul Cavalry, Tri-City Red, Tri-City Maroon, and White Bear -- along with Lino Lakes (Centennial) and Chisago Lakes from the 10th District -- and Stillwater, Forest Lake, and the Burnsville Pythons (#2 team) from the 3rd District. (The Tournament Director is Gail Kalata. The seeding for the tournament was completed by the participating coaches, on Saturday July 16th.)
Sub-State 7 participants (9 teams) include: North St. Paul, Hamline Purple, Hamline Red and Rosetown, along with Oakdale, Mahtomedi, West St. Paul, and Rosemount Irish Blue from District 3, and Fridley Eagle Gold (Totino-Grace) from District 10. (The Tournament Director is Charlie Godbout.)
