Congratulations, Mounds View Mustangs !!!
The 2018 Mounds View High School Season was a phenomenal success -- with the Mustangs earning the Section 5AAAA Championship, and making yet another
State Tournament appearance. Congratulations are also in order to Ty Koehn and Josh Bonde for being named to the Minnesota HS All-Star Series, as well as to
Carter Traczyk (alternate).
An Important Message to Parents, from Head Coach, Nik Anderson
I read an excertp called, "The Matheny Manifesto," by Mike Matheny (Manager of the St. Louis Cardinal.) It is a letter to the parents of a little league team that he
coached, which he shared every year. He coaches his big leaguers the same way. Matheny's letter hit home with me, so I wanted to share some pieces of it with
you, that apply to OUR team. I've made adjustments to it for our organization, but would like all of you to tranck along with me -- (READ FULL REMARKS)
Tri-City Red Sports a New Look in 2018, thanks to Fundraising Efforts!
Fundraising is an important function of the Tri-City Red organization. Without it, the team could not continue to exist. And, one of the goals of hosting the American Legion State Tournament in 2017 was to raise funds for much-needed new uniforms and equipment. With those efforts being successful, during the off-season, we were able to make those purchases -- and are pleased to show-off the two new jersey designs that the team will be wearing in 2018.
We wish to thank all the wonderful members of the Red Family, past and present, who volunteered their time during the State Tournament, as well as all those within our community who supported that giant undertaking!! We couldn't have done it without you !!!
Parent / Player Meeting Information - Tuesday, May 29th
A pre-season Parent / Player meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 29th, 6:30 pm, MVHS Forum.
- It is important that at least one parent (preferably both) attend this meeting. This season's schedule will be reviewed and procedural issues, general expectations, etc. will be covered -- plus you will have the opportunity to ask any and all questions that you might have. Uniforms will also be distributed.
- Please bring your completed Player Form 2 (which was distributed by email), signed by the player plus one parent.
- In addition, please bring the player's ORIGINAL birth certificate (which will be securely held for the duration of the season by the team), as well as the 2018 registration fee. (Checks should be made payable to "Tri-City Red Baseball.")

Tri-City Red Announces 2018 Roster (May 2, May 23, June 8)
Thank you to all who registered and attended tryouts for Tri-City Red this season.
The following players have been named to the 2018 roster.
Hunter Ault Matt Herold Will Rogers Brett Bateman Ben Jepko John Solfest Josh Bonde Scott Kalthoff Jonah Sparks Channing Cole Ty Koehn Cole Stenstrom Jake Christopherson Justin Langer Matt Strong Kyle Folska Isaac Mezzenga Carter Traczyk Although the team wishes it could have rostered all those who registered, very difficult decisions always need to be made -- especially considering the fact that the team needs to balance its roster with the proper mix of players by position. We strongly encourage eligible players who were not rostered this year to register and tryout again next season!
The Tri-City Red season begins Monday, June 11th -- and continues non-stop through, hopefully, the State Tournament, August 1-5 -- and beyond! (The American Legion Regional and World Series follow during the two weeks thereafter.) We, and your teammates, look forward to your solid particpation commitment for the duration of the entire season. (Any schedule concerns or issues should be directed to Head Coach, Nik Anderson.)
A Parent/Player meeting will be held in the coming weeks (date yet to be announced). At least one parent needs to attend (preferably both). The season schedule will be reviewed, along with general procedural issues and expectations, and uniforms and equipment will be distributed -- plus there will be ample time for questions. At that time, the registration fee will be due, along with player forms (which will be distributed in advance by email). An ORIGINAL of the player's birth certficate must also be provided, which will be held for the duration of the season. Therefore, parents are encouraged to locate the player's birth certificate now (and order an additional original, if desired.)
Please direct any questions or concerns to Head Coach, Nik Anderson (651-497-7222) or to Administrator, Gail Kalata (651-592-4279). Thank you!

CHS FIELD:
Over the course of a number of years, Tri-City Red staff was involved in the CHS Field construction effort, by testifying at the MN Legislature, attending related events, and helping to grow grass-root support for a new ballpark to replace Midway stadium (which was recently torn down). As a result, Fourth District American Legion Baseball also enjoys a unique relationship with the City of St. Paul, enabling us to use the park for Legion games, when it is avaialble. In fact, during the construction of CHS, a time-capsule was installed within the walls of the park (to be opened in 2065) -- and materials pertaining to Tri-City Red and 4th District Legion Baseball were contributed to it. Show Your Support of the Tri-City Legion!
As has been the case with many Legion Posts in recent years, the long-time sponsor of our baseball teams, Tri-City American Legion Post 513, has faced struggles in recent years due to the difficult economy -- and was forced to close its building as a result. (The Legion continues as a chartered Post -- it simply no longer has a building at which to hold community events.) You can show your onogoing appreciation to the Legion for all of the valuable contributions it makes to the community (in addition to sponsorship of the Legion baseball teams!), by supporting their continuing programs that benefit our area schools, veterans, youth, and the community at large. For information on current events (e.g., the collection of items for charitable garage sales, craft sales, etc.), please make sure to visit the Legion's web site, as well as its Facebook page. Also, if you are a veteran -- or if an immediate member of your family is a veteran -- please consider joining the Tri-City family as a member (Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion)!
(Because my father was a WWII veteran, I can proudly say that I am an American Legion Auxiliary member! Gail)

CONGRAT'S, RED !!! ... ANOTHER MAGICAL SEASON IN THE BOOKS !!!! | |||||||
As in the past four seasons, this year, 15 "Sub-State Playoff Tournaments" will be held across Minnesota, instead of 10 District tournaments -- eliminating the past practice of multiple teams from certain District playoff tournaments earning berths in the State Tournament. (In addition to the 15 Sub-State Champions, the State Tournament Host team, Edina in 2018, automatically receives a berth, which rounds the State Tournament field out to 16 teams.)
4th District teams have been assigned to two different Sub-State playoff tournaments:
Sub-State 8 participants (8 teams) include: Tri-City Red, Tri-City Maroon, and Arcade-Phalen -- along with Tri-City Blue (St. Anthony), Lino Lakes (Centennial) and Chisago Lakes from the 10th District -- and Stillwater and Forest Lake from the 3rd District. (The Tournament Director is Gail Kalata. The seeding for the tournament is completed by the participating coaches (Saturday July 21.)
Sub-State 7 participants (8 teams) include: North St. Paul 39ers, Hamline Purple, Hamline Red and Rosetown, along with Oakdale, Mahtomedi, West St. Paul, and Fridley Eagle Gold (Totino-Grace) from District 10. (The Tournament Director is Bill Gardner of North St. Paul.)
