Tri-City Red / MN State Tournament Bracket & Night at the St. Paul Saints Game

2017 STATE TOURNAMENT BRACKET

Wednesday, July 26, 2017:

As part of Tri-City Red's hosting of the 2017 Minnesota American Legion State Tournament, the St. Paul Saints will be honoring all state tournament teams (those who wish to participate in this event) at their game on Wednesday, July 26th (versus the Sioux City Explorers, 7:05 pm game start time.) Players will be advised at a later date as to what time they need to arrive.

  • Tri-City Red playes and coaches will receive free tickets.

  • Parents, family, friends, etc. who wish to attend the game must purchase tickets through the Saints: http://saintsbaseball.com/tickets/
It is suggested that tickets be purchased early, in view of the fact that many Saints games sell out!

Parent / Player Meeting Information (May 19, 2017)

A pre-season Parent / Player meeting will be held on Monday, May 22nd at approximately 7 pm (following Mounds View's home game against Park Center) in the Forum at MVHS.

  • It is important that at least one parent (preferably both) attend this meeting. This season's schedule will be reviewed and procedural issues, general expectations, etc. will be covered -- and you will have the opportunity to ask any and all questions that you might have.  Uniforms will also be distributed.
  • Please bring your completed Player Form 2, signed by both the player, as well as one parent.
  • In addition, please bring the player's ORIGINAL birth certificate (which will be securely held for the duration of the season by the team), as well as the 2017 registration fee. (Checks should be made payable to "Tri-City Red Baseball.")

Tri-City Red Announces 2017 Roster (April 29, 2017)

Thank you to all who registered and attended tryouts for Tri-City Red this season.
The following players have been named to the 2017 roster.

Ian Bahn Erik Holloman Matt Laursen
Channing Cole Ross Indlecoffer Joey Lawson
Adam Davidson Ben Jepko Jeff LeMay
Riley Flanagan Scott Kalthoff Ryan Nickel
Nate Fredrickson Ty Koehn Trevor Stephan
Matt Herold Justin Langer John Solfest

Although the team wishes it could have rostered all those who registered, very difficult decisions always need to be made -- especially considering the fact that the team needs to balance its roster with the proper mix of players by position, while only being able to roster a maximum of 18 players.  We strongly encourage eligible players who were not rostered this year to register and tryout again next season!

As a reminder, the Tri-City Red season begins Sunday, June 11th -- and continues non-stop through the State Tournament, July 31st. (The American Legion Regional and World Series follow during the two weeks thereafter.) We, and your teammates, look forward to your solid particpation commitment for the duration of the entire season. (Any schedule concerns or issues should be directed to Head Coach, Nik Anderson.)

A Parent/Player meeting will be held in the coming weeks (date yet to be announced). At least one parent needs to attend (preferably both). The season schedule will be reviewed, along with general procedural issues and expectations, and uniforms and equipment will be distributed -- plus there will be ample time for questions. At that time, the registration fee will be due, along with player forms (which will be distributed in advance by email). An ORIGINAL of the player's birth certficate must also be provided, which will be held for the duration of the season. Therefore, parents are encouraged to locate the player's birth certificate now (and order an additional original, if desired.)

Please direct any questions or concerns to Head Coach, Nik Anderson (651-497-7222) or to Administrator, Gail Kalata (651-592-4279). Thank you!

Other Local, State and National News

CHS FIELD:
Over the course of a number of years, Tri-City Red staff was involved in the CHS Field construction effort, by testifying at the MN Legislature, attending related events, and helping to grow grass-root support for a new ballpark to replace Midway stadium (which was recently torn down). As a result, Fourth District American Legion Baseball also enjoys a unique relationship with the City of St. Paul, enabling us to use the park for Legion games, when it is avaialble. In fact, during the construction of CHS, a time-capsule was installed within the walls of the park (to be opened in 2065) -- and materials pertaining to Tri-City Red and 4th District Legion Baseball were contributed to it.

Show Your Support of the Tri-City Legion!

As has been the case with many Legion Posts in recent years, the long-time sponsor of our baseball teams, Tri-City American Legion Post 513, has faced struggles in recent years due to the difficult economy -- and was forced to close its building as a result. (The Legion continues as a chartered Post -- it simply no longer has a building at which to hold community events.) You can show your onogoing appreciation to the Legion for all of the valuable contributions it makes to the community (in addition to sponsorship of the Legion baseball teams!), by supporting their continuing programs that benefit our area schools, veterans, youth, and the community at large. For information on current events (e.g., the collection of items for charitable garage sales, craft sales, etc.), please make sure to visit the Legion's web site, as well as its Facebook page. Also, if you are a veteran -- or if an immediate member of your family is a veteran -- please consider joining the Tri-City family as a member (Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion)!

(Because my father was a WWII veteran, I can proudly say that I am an American Legion Auxiliary member! Gail)

2017 Sub-State Tournament

As in the past four seasons, this year, 15 "Sub-State Playoff Tournaments" will be held across Minnesota, instead of 10 District tournaments -- eliminating the past practice of multiple teams from certain District playoff tournaments earning berths in the State Tournament. (In addition to the 15 Sub-State Champions, the State Tournament Host team, TRI-CITY RED in 2017, automatically receives a berth, which rounds the State Tournament field out to 16 teams.)

4th District teams have been assigned to two different Sub-State playoff tournaments:

Sub-State 8 participants (9 teams) include: Tri-City Red, Tri-City Maroon, and White Bear -- along with Tri-City Blue (St. Anthony), Lino Lakes (Centennial) and Chisago Lakes from the 10th District -- and Stillwater, Forest Lake, and the Burnsville Pythons (#2 team) from the 3rd District. (The Tournament Director is Gail Kalata. The seeding for the tournament was completed by the participating coaches, on Saturday July 15th.)

Sub-State 7 participants (9 teams) include (SUBJECT TO CHANGE YET!): North St. Paul 39ers, North St. Paul Cavaliers, Hamline Purple, Hamline Red and Rosetown, along with Oakdale, Mahtomedi, West St. Paul, and Fridley Eagle Gold (Totino-Grace) from District 10. (The Tournament Director is Bill Gardner of North St. Paul.)

Central Plains: Dickinson, ND Team Reporting & Banquet: Tuesday, 8/1/17
Games played: Wednesday, 8/2/17 - Sunday, 8/6/17

2017 World Series National Championship Tournament

The 2017 (91st) American Legion World Series will be held in Shelby, NC. Teams will begin reporting on Tuesday, August 8, 2017
(with teams being transported directoy to Shelby from their respective Regional tournaments.) A concert and other events taking place on
Wednesday, August 9th. Games (pool play beginning in 2015) will run Thursday, August 10 - Tuesday, August 15, 2017.

NOTE: In 2017, ESPNU will once again broadcast the semi-finals and championship games LIVE. Therefore, the World Series will be a pool play tournament,
running over six days (instead of being a five-day double-elimination tournament), in order to compensate for any potential weather-delays
during the tournament -- so that ESPNU's broadcast schedule is not impacted.
