Tri-City Red Announces Tournament Schedule for 2010
This 2010 tournament schedule will include trips to a couple of Red's favorite and familiar venues -- the Fargo/Moorhead Invitational (June 25-27) and the Gopher Classic (July 9-13). For the Gopher Classic, Red will be playing at a newly-renovated Red Haddox Field in Bloomington and, in pool play, will face Burnsville, Raleston NE, Grand Forks ND, Thunder Bay ONT, and Bloomington Gold (host) in its quest to reach the quarter-finals.

New for 2010, Red will compete in the Hopkins Tournament (June 18-20). Complete pairings for these tournaments will be available at a later date in the Schedule & Results section below. In addition, non-league contests are also lined up with several teams.

Spread the Word About Becoming a Tri-City Baseball Supporter!
In an effort to raise funds and keep additional costs to participants as low as possible, Tri-City Baseball is looking for people, organizations, and businesses who want to show their support through postings on this web site (See the link above!). Those who desire further information on this program, should contact Gail at info@tricitybaseball.org.

Read about Tri-City Baseball in the Bulletin and Shoreview Press Newspapers
Stories can be accessed on The Bulletin's Sports page -- or by doing a search on The Bulletin's homepage. In addition, don't forget to check for articles in the Shoreview Press!

Statewide Legion Baseball Poll
The MN American Legion Baseball Statewide Coaches/Media Poll will again be in operation for the 2010 season. Tri-City Red has been a fixture in the poll -- quite an accomplishment, considering there are over 350 Legion teams in Minnesota. Complete poll results are posted each week on this web site, as well as being distributed to newspapers all across the state and several other media outlets. Make sure to check for the latest Poll results frequently!

Web Site Remains Very Active

Activity remains high on the Tri-City Baseball web site, with activity expected to continue to build as the season gets going. Keep spreading the word about our site's existance!

Tri-City Continues to Contribute Heavily to the Advancement and Promotion of American Legion Baseball in Minnesota

In addition to being the first American Legion Post and baseball team in the State of Minnesota to establish a website, do you know all the other ways that Tri-City helps to strengthen the American Legion Baseball Program in Minnesota? First, volunteers within the Tri-City organization handle the administration and publication of the Statewide American Legion Poll (read more). Secondly, Tri-City provides space on its own website to host the Official Minnesota State Tournament website -- and Tri-City volunteers do all of the State Tournament site design and maintenance each year, in addition to helping at the State Tournament itself.. And, new in 2006, Tri-City volunteered to host a web page that outlines all game schedules and results for the Gopher Classic tournament. Many college coaches and major league scouts have commented on how useful the information is to them, as well as how often they visit the Tri-City Basebal site.

Because of its numerous contributions to American Legion Baseball -- on and off the field -- Tri-City was named Post of the Year by Minnesota American Legion Baseball in 2005. So, be proud of your association with Tri-City -- and help us continue to enhance our reputation as a leader in American Legion Baseball by representing our Post with dignity and integrity!

2010 Season Highlights and Accomplishments:

6/16/10: Tri-City Red starts season off in great style, with a record of 5-0. Wins were chalked up in non-league contests with Fridley, Hopkins, and Tri-City Maroon. Red picked up wins in its first two league games as well -- against Arcade-Phalen, and White Bear Orange. Way to go, Red!

6/20/10: The team continued its winning ways, by picking up victories against league rival Arcade-Phalen and going an impressive 3-0 in pool play during the Hopkins tournament, bringing the team's overall record to 9-0 for the season. Red went on to win its semi-final game against Hopkins, and almost pulled off a dramatic come-from-behind win against a tough Mankato National team in the championship game.

6/2710: After another successful week of play without a loss, Red headed to Fargo, going 4-0 in pool play, with especially high quality wins against host Fargo and Pierre SD. (League foe, North St. Paul also played in the tournmanet - but in the opposite pool.) On Sunday, Red met New Ulm Gold and took the championship! Another highlight of the weekend included Sandy Buttweiler (and sister, Suzie) hosting a party for the entire team, parents and fans at her home on Saturday evening -- greatly enjoyed by all.

7/12/10: After another successful period of league play -- losing only to long-time rival, North St. Paul -- Red entered the Gopher Classic tournament with an impressive 19-2 record and 5th place ranking in the state-wide Coaches' Poll. Red went 4-1 in pool play, including chalking up a win against highly-regarded Burnsville in the opening game of the tournament. In the quarter final, Red refused to say uncle, and pulled off a more-than-memorable come-from-behind win against the Rochester Patriots -- by tying the game in teh bottom of the 7th, and following that with a dramatic grand slam walk off home run by Jesse Nickols in the bottom of the 8th inning. A loss in the semi-final round to the ultimate Gopher Champ, Napoleon OH, is all that prevented a 4th District championship game, against league rival, Rosetown. Congratulations, Red, on a fantastic finish in the Gopher Classic. Following its performance in the Gopher Classic, Red was rewarded with a climb to 3rd place in the state-wide rankings.
