Tri-City Red Clinches League Championship and State Tournament Berth
With a 10-1 victory over White Bear on Tuesday, July 23rd, Tri-City Red is assured of yet another trip to the Minnesota State American Legion Baseball Tournament, which will be held in Marshall, Minnesota on August 8 - 11, 2002.
Under Minnesota's State Tournament format, to fill out the tournament field to a full 16 teams, each year, on a rotating basis, two districts are given the opportunity to send one extra team. For 2002, under that rotating schedule, the 3rd and 4th districts are scheduled to each send an extra team to the State Tournament. Rather than sending the Champion and Runner-Up of the District 4 tournament, however, to make the League games more meaningful, it was decided that the League Champ would make the trip to the State Tournament, in addition to the District Tournament Champ. Despite a very tight, season-long battle between Tri-City Red and North St. Paul for the League Title, Tri-City Red prevailed, and clinched the State Tournament berth on July 23rd. As 2002 League Champion, the Red will also get a bye during the first day of the District 4 Tournament, beginning play instead on Monday, 7/29/02.
CONGRATULATIONS RED!!!!
