Tri-City Red (Mounds View area):
Eligibility: All
youth born on or after January 1, 1990 who attend
MoundsView High School (or who live nearer to Mounds View HS than
another high school that is the base school for an American
Legion baseball team.) Those in college, born on or after 1/1/90,
are also eligible, provided they meet the other eligibility
criteria. (If you are unclear as to your eligibility, you are
encouraged to attend a registration session to obtain
clarification and/or further eligibility information.)
NOTE: In 2008, the eligibility and recruitment
rules covering District 4 American Legion Baseball changed
significantly. The new rules are complex, and determining the
team for which a player is eligible to play can be confusing --
particularly if a player does not attend Mounds View High School
(Tri-City Red's "base school."). Further, those who are
not selected by Tri-City Red for the 2009 team have the option of
trying out with other Legion programs, but determining which ones
might be a difficult. To help with these issues, Tri-City has
prepared an summary of the Minnesota American Legion Recruiting and
Eligibility Rules. This summary also
lists neighboring Legion teams, as
well as contact info for those teams. As always though, Tri-City
Red staff is ready to help answer any questions about rules and
eligility, so we would urge anyone who needs assistance to
contact us!
In addition to American Legion Baseball, any players who do not
make a Legion team in 2009 should not overlook investigating the
quality programs that are available through Shoreview Area Youth
Baseball -- www.sayb.org.

Information for Web Site for past teams is Needed (Sr. Babe Ruth teams, as well as Mickey Mantle teams)
Historical information on the teams for this web site has been somewhat hard to come by. Therefore, if you have information that you can gather together and submit to me, or if you have materials that you can borrow to me, please contact me at webdesigner@tricitybaseball.org.! I am looking for official team rosters, game/tournament schedules and results, photographs (especially team photos), home field information, historical team data, etc. (Please also let me know what your association is with the team.)
Or, if you know of someone who has information but does not have Internet access, please e-mail his/her name and telephone number to me, and I will contact him/her, referencing your referral. Thank you. Gail

Prior News of Interest:
(1/01) National Director of American Legion Baseball Compliments Tri-City on its Web Site
When an individual American Legion Post implements a web site, the National American Legion asks to be notified, for informational purposes. After the National was notified of the existence of Tri-City's site, Jim Quinlan, Director of American Legion Baseball, who is based in Indianapolis, took the time to look at the site, and forwarded a very complimentary e-mail. Said Quinlan, "...I am pleased to hear that you have created an Internet site. Your Legionnaires and players will both really enjoy and appreciate the site. I am a big supporter of web sites. I think they are a wonderful tool to help promote the Legion and its programs...[American Legion Baseball] is a good program because we have so many wonderful volunteers that make it great. I can see the pride and hard work in your program through your web site. You have a lot of great information and links."
Saying, "I hope it helps to preserve grand memories for your players," Quinlan also gave permission for Tri-City to use the 1999 American Legion World Series radio broadcasts on its site, as well as game results and statistics for 1999 and 2000. (The National Legion owns the copywrited rights to the radio broadcasts and game results/statistics.) While 1997 regional and world series statistics are no longer available electronically via the National's web site, Quinlan offered to look for hard copy information for us, if necessary. (I already have hardcopy data, however, and hope to also get it onto Tri-City's web site at some point in the future.) Gail
(1/01) "John Skilton's Baseball Links Page" adds Tri-City Web Site to its Directory
"John Skilton's Baseball Links" is a well-known web site that is essentially a catalog of all kinds of baseball-realted web sites. The Skilton site contains literally thousands of links to other baseball-related web sites -- all organized by category. Visitors to the Skilton site can then also "rate" the various web sites that are listed on the Skilton site, using a 1-10 rating systm. (To rate a site, visitors should click on the circled "R" to the left of the site name.) Web sites that get consistently high ratings are then awarded stars on the Skilton site, which helps to drive future visitors to those sites.
I was notified by the Skilton site that Tri-City Baseball was accepted, and Skilton put three listings for Tri-City on their site, as follows:
To find the listing for "Tri-City (MN) American Legion Baseball," click on "Amateur/Semi-Pro," then click on "American Legion" at the top of the page. Scroll down to the alphabetical listing for Tri-City -- OR -- click here to go directly to the page containing Tri-City's American Legion Baseball listing. (Don't forget to rate our site!!!!)
2) To find the listings for "Tri-City (MN) Babe Ruth Baseball" and "Tri-City Mickey Mantle Baseball," click on "Youth Baseball," then click on "Minnesota" -- OR -- click here to go directly to the page containing Tri-City's listings. (While we have very little information about the Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle teams on our site right now, I hope to be getting some information that I can put on the site soon. If anyone has information to contribute so that we can build these pages, please contact me at webdesigner@tricitylegion.org.!)
As administrator of our web site, I can view Tri-City web site traffic reports. Once Skilton listed Tri-City Baseball on its site, I saw a very notable increase in traffic on the Tri-City Baseball pages, which I could also tell was coming directly from the Skilton site. Therefore, I am positive that we are now getting hits from all across the country. Hopefully we are "earning stars" also!
In other "link" and "web site" news, I discovered that the Kennewick Dusters (Washington State American Legion team that was 1999 World Series Runner up) also has a web site. Kennewick's web site administor and I subsequently exchanged e-mail. Many of their folks have visited our site, as through our site, they have access to the 1999 World Series radio broadcasts and stats. While I plan to add many more links to our site (for example, web sites for college baseball teams on which Tri-City alumni are playing, other local Legion, Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle sites, etc.), if you are interested in visiting Kennewick's site, I have placed a link here temporarily. (If you get a strange pop-up message when you first log onto their site, just click "cancel" in the pop-up box.) Gail
(3/01) St. Paul Pioneer Press Publishes News Story About Tri-City Legion
After becoming aware of Tri-City's web site in February, Cynthia Boyd, Staff Writer with the St. Paul Pioneer Press, contacted Commander Norb Stachowski, asking for more information about Tri-City's community programs. In her discussion with the Commander, Cynthia expressed particular interest in Tri-City's blood donor program, indicating that she might wish to run a story about it in the St. Paul paper. She subsequently made arrangements to accompany a group of Tri-City blood donors to the VA Hospital on March 6, 2001, along with a Pioneer Press photographer. The story ran on Thursday, March 8, 2001, and gave praise to Tri-City for its blood donations and its other community programs. It clearly emphasized that the American Legion is a lot more than just a club house where veterans meet to eat, drink and be merry!
For more about Tri-City's Blood Donor Club, take this link to the Blood Donor page of Tri-City's web site.
(4/01) Tri-City Baseball Website Added to "Aaron's Baseball Links"
Similar to the Skilton Baseball Links site (see above), another prominent Baseball Links site out on the web is "Aaron's Baseball Links." Between these two sites, you can find links to just about every baseball-related web site imaginable!
A link to the Tri-City Baseball web page was added by Aaron's in March. To find it, go to Aaron's homepage by clicking here. Then, under Contents, click on "Youth Leagues." Then, scroll down to "Minnesota."
