Statewide Legion Baseball Poll
The MN American Legion Baseball Statewide Coaches/Media Poll will again be in operation for the 2014 season. Tri-City Red has been a fixture in the poll -- quite an accomplishment, considering there are over 325 Legion teams in Minnesota. Complete poll results are posted each week on this web site, as well as being distributed to several media outlets and newspapers all across the state. Make sure to check for the latest Poll results frequently!

Tri-City Continues to Contribute to the Advancement and Promotion of American Legion Baseball
In addition to being the first American Legion Post and baseball teams in the State of Minnesota to establish a web site, do you know all the other ways that Tri-City helps to strengthen the American Legion Baseball Program in Minnesota? First, volunteers within the Tri-City organization handle the administration and publication of the Statewide American Legion Poll (read more). Secondly, Tri-City provides space on its own website to host the Official Minnesota State Tournament website -- as well as maintaining the site during the tournament and assisting with the running of the tournament itself. In addition, Tri-City hosts and maintains the MN Legion Baseball home page, and Tri-City plays an important role in assisting with the administration of the Gopher Classic tournament, including publishing all game schedules and results on-line. All of this information not only helps to advance the program, but it serves to benefit players by making more information accessible to college and professional scouts.
Because of its numerous contributions to American Legion Baseball -- on and off the field -- Tri-City was named Post of the Year by Minnesota American Legion Baseball in 2005. So, be proud of your association with Tri-City -- and help us continue to enhance our reputation as a leader in American Legion Baseball by representing our Post with dignity and integrity!
Show Your Support of the Tri-City Legion!
As has been the case with many Legion Posts in recent years, the long-time sponsor of our baseball teams, Tri-City American Legion Post 513, has faced struggles in recent years due to the difficult economy -- and was forced to close its building as a result. (The Legion continues as a chartered Post -- it simply no longer has a building at which to hold community events.) You can show your onogoing appreciation to the Legion for all of the valuable contributions it makes to the community (in addition to sponsorship of the Legion baseball teams!), by supporting their continuing programs that benefit our area schools, veterans, youth, and the community at large. For information on current events (e.g., the collection of items for charitable garage sales, craft sales, etc.), please make sure to visit the Legion's web site, as well as its Facebook page. Also, if you are a veteran -- or if an immediate member of your family is a veteran -- please consider joining the Tri-City family as a member (Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion)!
(Because my father was a WWII veteran, I can proudly say that I am an American Legion Auxiliary member! Gail)

Notes & Info: |
Pool
Play format (2 pools, 6 teams each), played at Jack
Williams Stadium in Fargo (map) and Matson Field (map) in Moorhead. A toll bridge across the Red River connects the two fields (15th Avenue on the MN side and 12th Avenue on the ND side.) Jack Williams Stadium is located at Elm Street & 12th Avenue North in Fargo, just east of the NDSU campus. Matson Field is at the intersection of 15th Avenue North (Hwy 83) and 11th Street (enter parking lot on 15th Avenue). Jack Williams Pool: Fargo Post 2, Detroit Lakes, Blue Springs, MO, Chanhassen, Fridley Gold Eagle (Totino-Grace), Tri-City Red Matson Field Pool: Moorhead Blues, West Fargo, Mitchell, SD, Team Manitoba (Winnipeg all-star team), Andover, Giantvalley (Minnehaha Academy),
During/after the tourney, make sure to search for stories at the The Fargo Forum Website: Newspaper Sports Section (use on-site search to find articles on American Legion Baseball, Tri-City Red, Fargo-Moorhead tournament, etc.) (Home/away designation for unplayed games below is not necessarily correct -- subject to coin flip, with exception that Fargo and Moorhead are always home.) 6/27/14 - REVISED TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE (due to rain on Friday, which

Tournament Notes: | Much
rain caused two schedule revisions (Friday night, then
again Saturday). Fargo and Moorhead both removed
themselves from the tournament, to provide more spots in
which entered teams could play, in order to give every
team at least 4 games. To make the schedule work, a
cross-over game* with the Matson pool replaced the game
with Blue Springs. Final pool records: Jack
Williams - 1. Blue Springs (3-1, LRA 7), 2. Tri-City
Red (3-1, LRA 9*), 3. Fridley Gold (2-2, LRA 13), 4.
Chanhassen (2-2, LRA 23), 5. Detroit Lakes (0-4). Tri-City Red and Blue Springs were tied at 3-1. First tie-breaker was head-to-head. Because they had not played each other, 2nd tie-breaker of Least Runs Allowed came into play. On Saturday evening, Tri-City Red had also declined playing in championship (if qualified), because it would have resulted in having to play a triple-header (3 games) on Sunday. Matson Pool - 1. Mitchell (5-0, LRA 6), 2. Andover (2-2, LRA 16), West Fargo (2-2, LRA 23), Giantvalley (2-2, LRA 25), Winnipeg (0-4). Championship Game (4 pm Sunday): Mitchell 4, Blue Springs 3 |

Minnesota State Tournament: (see State section below -- and theState Tournament page, for most up-to-date schedule / score information) |
Again this year, 15 "Sub-State Playoff Tournaments" will be held across Minnesota, instead of 10 District tournaments -- eliminating the past practice of multiple teams from certain District playoff tournaments earning berths in the State Tournament. (In addition to the 15 Sub-State Champions, the State Tournament Host team (Eagan in 2014), automatically receives a berth, which rounds the State Tournament field out to 16 teams.)
4th District teams have been assigned to two different Sub-State playoff tournaments:
Sub-State 7 participants include: North St. Paul, Hamline Purple, Hamline Red and Rosetown, along with Oakdale, Mahtomedi, and West St. Paul from District 3, and Fridley Eagle Gold (Totino-Grace) from District 10. (The Tournament Director is Steve Jones.)
Sub-State 8 participants include: Maplewood Green, Tri-City Red, Tri-City Maroon, and White Bear, along with Tri-City Blue (St. Anthony), and Lino Lakes (Centennial) from the 10th District, as well as Stillwater and Forest Lake from the 3rd District. (The Tournament Director is Gail Kalata.)

2014 Minnesota State Tournament
The 89th Annual Minnesota State American Legion Baseball Championship Tournament will be hosted by Eagan. Play begins on Friday, August 1, 2014 and continues through Monday, August 4, 2014. Team check-in will take place on Thursday, July 31, 2014, with the annual banquet being held that evening.
The Regional American Legion Tournament will be held as follows:
Central Plains: Fargo, ND Thursday, 8/7/14 - Monday, 8/11/14
(Note, beginning in 2011, National began assigning both the Minnesota State Champ and the Minnesota State Runner up to the
Central Plains Regional, whereas, previously, Champ was assigned to Central Plains and Runner-Up was assigned to Great Lakes.)
For more information on the Regional Tournaments, visit Fargo's official web site, or take this link to the National American Legion Baseball Web Site.
The 2014 (88th) American Legion World Series will be held in Shelby, NC on Thursday, August 14, 2014 through Tuesday, August 19, 2014.
NOTE: In 2014, ESPNU will broadcast the championship game LIVE. Therefore, the World Series will be a pool play tournament,
running over six days (instead of being a five-day double-elimination tournament. The Shelby reporting date is Tuesday, August 12th, with
teams being transported directly to Shelby from their repsective Regional tournaments.)
For more information on the National Tournaments, visit Shelby's official web site, or take this link to the National American Legion Baseball Web Site.
