Stephen Grasley Assumes Position of Manager & Head Coach for Tri-City Red

Effective with the 2012 season, Tri-City Red is pleased to announce that Stephen Grasley assumes the position of Manager & Head Coach. Steve graduated from Mounds View high school and played with Red from 1998 - 2000. Along with his team mates, Steve brought home an American Legion World Series national championship title in 1999. After high school, he attended Creighton University, where he earned Division 1 All-American honors, in addition to completing his degree. He joined the Seattle Mariner organization in 2004, spending time in Peoria, the Arizona Rookie League, and with the Mariner's Timber Rattlers affiliate in Appleton. Steve has served as an Assistant Coach with Tri-City Red for several years and, effective with the 2012 season, he assumes the reins as Manager & Head Coach.

Rus Poser, who has been at the helm since 2009 (after having Assisted for a number of years) steps into the role of General Manager of Tri-City Red, while continuing to work fulltime and serving as an Assistant Coach at Bethel University. He will continue to enjoy Tri-City Red games -- but from the other side of the backstop fence! Billy Scheider will return as an Assistant Coach in 2012, with additional Assistant Coaches to be named at a later date.

State and National News

- For the 2012 season, the National American Legion is implementing several rule changes -- inlcuding DH for pitcher only (play must be in accordance with MLB American League rule), no player re-entry, no courtesy runners. Information on this, and other State and National news is available on the Minnesota American Legion Baseball web page.

- Minnesota American Legion Baseball is now on
Facebook. Visit -- and "like" the page -- to receive status updates on your Facebook home page.

- Due to her many volunteer contributions to the American Legion Baseball program, Tri-City's own, Gail Kalata, was inducted into the Minnesota American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011. The award was presented at the 2011 MN State Tournament banquet, and Gail very much appreciated all the congratulations and warm wishes extended by her Tri-City Red family!

- Did you know that the
National American Legion Baseball web site includes a nation-wide listing of registered teams, as well as links to individual team web sites? Visit National's List of Registered Teams, to truly see the extent and popularity of American Legion Baseball across the nation-- as well as Minnesota's leading position, with respect to its number of registered teams.

Statewide Legion Baseball Poll

The MN American Legion Baseball Statewide Coaches/Media Poll will again be in operation for the 2012 season. Tri-City Red has been a fixture in the poll -- quite an accomplishment, considering there are over 325 Legion teams in Minnesota. Complete poll results are posted each week on this web site, as well as being distributed to several media outlets and newspapers all across the state. Make sure to check for the latest Poll results frequently!

Tri-City Continues to Contribute to the Advancement and Promotion of American Legion Baseball

In addition to being the first American Legion Post and baseball teams in the State of Minnesota to establish a web site, do you know all the other ways that Tri-City helps to strengthen the American Legion Baseball Program in Minnesota? First, volunteers within the Tri-City organization handle the administration and publication of the Statewide American Legion Poll (read more). Secondly, Tri-City provides space on its own website to host the Official Minnesota State Tournament website -- as well as maintaining the site during the tournament and assisting with the running of the tournament itself. In addition, Tri-City hosts and maintains the MN Legion Baseball home page, and Tri-City plays an important role in assisting with the administration of the Gopher Classic tournament, including publishing all game schedules and results on-line. All of this information not only helps to advance the program, but it serves to benefit players by making more information accessible to college and professional scouts.

Because of its numerous contributions to American Legion Baseball -- on and off the field -- Tri-City was named Post of the Year by Minnesota American Legion Baseball in 2005. So, be proud of your association with Tri-City -- and help us continue to enhance our reputation as a leader in American Legion Baseball by representing our Post with dignity and integrity!

Show Your Support of the Tri-City Legion!

As has been the case with many Legion Posts in recent years, the long-time sponsor of our baseball teams, Tri-City American Legion Post 513, has faced struggles in recent years due to the difficult economy -- and was forced to close its building as a result. (The Legion continues as a chartered Post -- it simply no longer has a building at which to hold community events.) You can show your onogoing appreciation to the Legion for all of the valuable contributions it makes to the community (in addition to sponsorship of the Legion baseball teams!), by supporting their continuing programs that benefit our area schools, veterans, youth, and the community at large. For information on current events (e.g., the collection of items for charitable garage sales, craft sales, etc.), please make sure to visit the Legion's web site, as well as its Facebook page. Also, if you are a veteran -- or if an immediate member of your family is a veteran -- please consider joining the Tri-City family as a member (Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion)!

(Because my father was a WWII veteran, I can proudly say that I am an American Legion Auxiliary member! Gail)

43rd Annual Princeton Legion Tournament (Print Tournament Bracket)
Tournament Notes: Participants: Tri-City Red, Eden Prairie, Hopkins, Apple Valley, St. Cloud 76ers, Alexandria, Grand Rapids and Princeton. (WOW!)

The
City of Princeton is located off of Highway 169, north of Elk River and Zimmerman. Take the Rum River Dr. exit (when traveling north on 169 --it's the 1st exit for Princeton, which is also indicated as the exit for the hospital and airport. You'll see the ballpark lights in the distance, to the N / NW.) At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn right onto Rum River Dr. Continue to 5th Street; go left on 5th (westbound) for roughly 6 blocks (you'll likely see signs for Mark Park along the way.) You will come to a T. Turn right, then a quick left into the parking lot.

As with Fargo, Tri-City Red been participating in this tournament annually since the early 90's, although due to a shortened National season, Red was not able to participate in 2010 and 2011, because the tournament was held in June. Red has won this tournament more times than any other team -- 7 times (1993, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2006, 2007, 2009).

If you have not been to the Princeton tournament previously, it will quickly become one of your favorites -- great field, great hosts, great food, great stories, great time!...and, unfortunately, you'll likely have to listen to us "old-timers" relive the
'99 team's feats at Princeton.
