Season Kickoff Spaghetti Dinner A Success!
On Thursday, June 4, 2009, Tri-City Red held its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser to kickoff the 2009 season, at which time this year's team captain's were announced -- David Freed, Brandon Hershey, and Philip Wessberg (Congratulations, guys!) In addition, the evening featured raffles, a silent auction, and plenty of time for catching up with old friends. And, many Tri-City Red alumni were present to thank and recognize Jeff Larsen, who hung up his uniform as Manager & Head Coach at the conclusion of the 2008 season. All in all, it was a fun and successful evening!

Tri-City Red 2009 Registration Information
Registration and tryout sessions have been completed for 2009 and the final roster has been selected. (See 2009 Roster section, below.) We appreciate the interest from all those who registered and tried out. For those interested in registering for Red in 2010, please refer to the following general information ...

In 2008, the eligibility and recruitment rules covering District 4 American Legion Baseball changed significantly. The new rules are complex, and determining the team for which a player is eligible to play can be confusing -- particularly if a player does not attend Mounds View High School (Tri-City Red's "base school."). Further, those who are not selected by Tri-City Red for the 2009 team have the option of trying out with other Legion programs, but determining which ones might be a difficult. To help with these issues, Tri-City has prepared an
summary of the Minnesota American Legion Recruiting and Eligibility Rules. This summary also lists neighboring Legion teams, as well as contact info for those teams. As always though, Tri-City Red staff is ready to help answer any questions about rules and eligility, so we would urge anyone who needs assistance to contact us!

In addition to American Legion Baseball, players should not overlook investigating the quality programs that are available through Shoreview Area Youth Baseball --
www.sayb.org.

Tri-City Red Announces Tournament Schedule for 2009
This 2009 tournament schedule will include trips to Red's favorite and familiar venues -- the Princeton Invitational (June 19-21), the Fargo/Moorhead Invitational (6/26 - 6/28) and the Gopher Classic (7/10 - 7/14). For the Gopher Classic, Red will be playing close to home -- at Bethel University. Complete pairings for these tournaments are available in the Schedule & Results section below..

Tri-City Baseball a Focus in Star Tribune Story
A story appeared in the Star Tribune on June 25, 2008 which focused on the impact that reduced revenue at Legion Posts is having on American Legion Baseball programs. Because of its state-wide reputation as a high-quality program, Tri-City Baseball was sought out for an interview for this story. Read the story at the Star Tribune's web site. (Make sure to read all 3 pages!)

Spread the Word About Becoming a Tri-City Baseball Supporter!
In an effort to raise funds and keep additional costs to participants as low as possible, Tri-City Baseball is looking for people, organizations, and businesses who want to show their support through postings on this web site (See the link above!). Those who desire further information on this program, should contact Gail at info@tricitybaseball.org.

Read about Tri-City Baseball in the Bulletin and Shoreview Press Newspapers
Stories can be accessed on The Bulletin's Sports page -- or by doing a search on The Bulletin's homepage. In addition, don't forget to check for articles in the Shoreview Press!

Statewide Legion Baseball Poll
The MN American Legion Baseball Statewide Coaches/Media Poll is again in operation for the 2009 season. Tri-City Red has been a fixture in the poll -- quite an accomplishment, considering there are over 350 Legion teams in Minnesota. Complete poll results are posted each week on this web site, as well as being distributed to newspapers all across the state and several other media outlets. Make sure to check for the latest Poll results frequently!

Web Site Remains Very Active

Activity remains high on the Tri-City Baseball web site, with activity expected to continue to build as the season gets going. Keep spreading the word about our site's existance!

Tri-City Continues to Contribute Heavily to the Advancement and Promotion of American Legion Baseball in Minnesota

In addition to being the first American Legion Post and baseball team in the State of Minnesota to establish a website, do you know all the other ways that Tri-City helps to strengthen the American Legion Baseball Program in Minnesota? First, volunteers within the Tri-City organization handle the administration and publication of the Statewide American Legion Poll (read more). Secondly, Tri-City provides space on its own website to host the Official Minnesota State Tournament website -- and Tri-City volunteers do all of the State Tournament site design and maintenance each year, in addition to helping at the State Tournament itself.. And, new in 2006, Tri-City volunteered to host a web page that outlines all game schedules and results for the Gopher Classic tournament. Many college coaches and major league scouts have commented on how useful the information is to them, as well as how often they visit the Tri-City Basebal site.

Because of its numerous contributions to American Legion Baseball -- on and off the field -- Tri-City was named Post of the Year by Minnesota American Legion Baseball in 2005. So, be proud of your association with Tri-City -- and help us continue to enhance our reputation as a leader in American Legion Baseball by representing our Post with dignity and integrity!

Track Other Teams Online

It's almost time to play ball in all 10 of Minnesota's American Legion Baseball Districts! (For more information on the location of each district, visit the
Minnesota Legion Baseball Page within this site, or the Minnesota State site at www.mnlegion.org.) Take this link to District 6 (St. Cloud and Brainerd area teams.) You can also follow happenings in District 9 (NW Minnesota) on the web. And follow the District 10's North Hennepin League, and the 10th District at large, by visiting its website. Of course, don't forget to follow Red's sister team, TRI-CITY BLUE, which plays in that league. For information on what's going on in other Districts, search for American Legion Baseball stories on statewide newspapers at www.mnnews.com.

Princeton Invitational Tournament: 39th Annual: (Print Complete Tournament Pairings)
Tournament Notes:

Participants: Pool A-Tri-City Red, Fridley, and Princeton (host); Pool B-Rogers, St. Francis, and Grand Rapids.

The city of Princeton is located off of Highway 169, north of Elk River and Zimmerman. Take the Rum River Dr. exit (when traveling north on 169 --it's the 1st exit for Princeton, which is also indicated as the exit for the hospital and airport. You'll see the ballpark lights in the distance, to the N/NW.) At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn right on Rum River Dr. Continue to 5th Street; go left on 5th (westbound). Continue roughly 6 blocks (you'll likely see signs for Mark Park along the way.) You will come to a T. Turn right, then a quick left into the parking lot. The parking lot also serves as the entry drive for Princeton's waterpark, Splash Park.

Tri-City Red has won this tournament more times than any other teams -- 6 (1993, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2006, 2007). In 2008, Tri-City Red finished 3rd, behind perennial greats Eden Prairie and Grand Rapids, who placed 1st and 2nd, respectively.

If you have not been to the Princeton tournament previously, it will quickly become your favorite -- great field, great hosts, great food, great stories, great time!...and, unfortunately, you'll likely have to listen to us "old-timers" relive the '99 team's feats at Princeton.

The addres of Jack Williams Stadium is 10 11th Avenue North, Fargo, ND 58102, just east of the NDSU campus. Matson Field is at the intersection of 15th Avenue North/Hwy 83 and 11st Street (enter parking lot on 15th Avenue). As always, "look for the lights," when approaching the area.
