Tri-City Alum Pitching Sensation, Stephen Grasley, to Hold Pitching Clinic at Irondale
Get the inside scoop about what life is like in the Minor League system -- and learn improved pitching techniques from the guy who rewrote the stats in American Legion pitching. Not only was Stephen a significant contributor during Tri-City Red's 1999 National Championship season, but he earned the the National American Legion's greatest honor by being awarded the Bob Feller Pitching Award for 1999. He was 18-2, with 10 saves and 179 strikeouts during the 1999 season alone. Many more awards followed for Stephen, while playing for Creighton University in Omaha, NE -- and see the link below for information on his current assignment within the Seattle Mariners system. For further information about the pitching clinic, scheduled for October 1, 2005 at the Irondale High School Baseball Field, contact Stephen by e-mail -- or download a brochure and registration form here! Alexandria Claims First 2005 State Tournament Berth
Alexandria defeated Willmar 16-7 late Tuesday night to claim the first Minnesota American Legion State tournament berth -- in the name of District 7. Earlier in the day, Willmar had defeated Marshall 4-3 for the chance to beat Alexandria twice in the District Tournament. Only one other berth had been filled prior to July 26th -- and that was the host berth, which belongs to the Waite Park Silver Stars. (Tri-City Red had defeated the Silver Stars in the state championship game in St. Cloud in 2000 to claim its 5th Minnesota State Title.) Watch the rest of the State Tournament berths fill in, by visiting the Official Minnesota State Tournament page, which Tri-City maintains on this site, along with the Statewide Legion Coaches' & Media Poll, in a cooperative effort with the State Office of Minnesota American Legion Baseball.

Track District 1 and Other Playoffs Online
It's playoff time in all 10 of Minnesota's American Legion Baseball Districts! (For more information on the location of each district, visit the

For information on what's going on in other Districts, search for American Legion Baseball stories on statewide newspapers at www.mnnews.com. Of the several hundred Legion teams in Minnesota, not many (nor Legion Posts) have websites, but here are a some to check out: Alexandria, Eden Prairie, Excelsior, Burnsville, Hopkins, Chaska, Edina, Prior Lake.

"Pregame warmups" start at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 7 p.m. Contact Elmer, Jeff or George Bodlovick (4th District Director) for tickets.

Alum, Stephen Grasley, Making Steady Progress in Minor Leagues
Former Red pitching star, Stephen Grasley (1998-2000), picked up his 7th win on July 14th for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, improving his ERA to 3.29.
The Timber Rattlers compete in the Midwest League and are a Class A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Grasley is now 7-0, and has 2 saves. He has appeared in 29 games and struck out 48 batters in 68 innings. Follow Steve's progress at www.timberrattlers.com. His stats can also be checked at this direct link to Grasley's official stats: Minor League Baseball.com.
